My Gospel Standards

“Some ideas for activities to earn the Faith in God Award are listed in this guidebook. With help from your parents or Primary leader, you can also plan and do other activities.”
Faith in God guidebook P.5

“When planning activities, leaders should consider ideas from this guidebook, ‘My Gospel Standards’, the Friend, and the children themselves. Parents and others with specific skills may be invited to help”.
Faith in God guidebook p.18

  • CHURCH: Church suggested Activities.
  • I WILL SEEK GOOD FRIENDS AND TREAT OTHERS KINDLY: Choose another Activity Day group to become pen pals with your group. Exchange letters and pictures. Share information about you and where you live and have fun learning about where they live. Find out the types of things that they do in their Primary and Activity days.
  • GOSPEL STANDARDS WALL HANGING:This is a cute wall hanging to display the Gospel Standards. It would be fun to have the girls make this at an activity.GIRLS FASHION SHOW: To kick off the new Program, we decided to have a "Modesty Is Always In Fashion" Fashion Show. The girls were each asked to bring 2 or 3 appropriate outfits to model for their mothers. We selected appropriate music fitting the occasion. Modeling Song titles included, "What Dreams Are Made Of" Hillary Duff, "Bring It All Back" S-7 Club, "Get Happy" & C'est La Vie" - Bewitched,"One In A Million"-Bosson/ from Ms. Congeniality. We will have a photographer on hand to capture the girls. This event is being held the end of July and we are going with an ocean/fish theme. We used a treasure chest set at the bottom of the ocean and inside the chest were the Faith In God booklets along with Article of Faith Cards. The Girls Activity Leader (or you could have a guest speaker) gave a talk on the importance of modesty, what it means and why we dress modestly. This gives the girls an introduction into the young women program on dress standards. A musical number will be presented after the talk and the new Faith In God Program will be explained by our Primary President using an overhead projector and the information given on the LDS.org website regarding the new program. A question and answer period will be held at the end followed by refreshments. Decorations to consist of a lighted run way, fish nets, fish, beach umbrella/beach ball/palm trees decorated around the runway. seashells and lanterns on the tables. We are looking forward to a successful event! Susan Hyatt,Catoctin Ward, Ashburn, VA Stake If you wish to contact me for more information, you may email me at headsupsusan@yahoo.com
  • AM I DRESSIG MODESTLY?: We are marking a small permant magic marker line on each of the girls arms and legs to show them where garment lines lay. Then we are asking them to pretend as if they are wearing garments and to wear only clothes that cover these lines. This activity will last for one week.
  • I WILL SEEK GOOD FRIENDS AND TREAT OTHERS KINDLY: we got in the floor in a circle and I asked them to raise their hand if they would like more friends. Everyone raised their hand. I told them that almost everyone would like more friends and sometimes when you are feeling that way, you feel alone, but you aren't. I let each girl tell how she thought you could make/find a good friend. I ended by explaining that you have to be a good friend to get a good friend. We then made "Friendship Mix". Each girl put in one cup full of a snack. The person to her right had to help her get it out of the bag. The person to her left had to be told something nice about her that they really liked. They really were good at this. Several of the girls looked surprized at what was said about them. I explained that just like the treats in the bowl were all different, we were different....nevertheless, we all go together perfectly well and that we should be the best of friends in this group. We ate our mix while coloring friendship sheets to take home. Next meeting we will make friendship bracelets and then I'll check off a goal.
  • GOSPEL ACTIVITY THEMES: When we planned our yearly activity schedule, we used "My Gospel Standards" as themes for each month. There are thirteen standards and only twelve months so we combined standards 10 and 11. We chose activities from the book that would help teach each gospel principle. Since we only need to complete eight goals per year and we meet twenty-four times, we have the luxury of spending an average of three activities on each goal. When I presented the proposed activity schedule to the Primary president, she frowned and said, "Now don't forget to make the activities fun." I said, "Don't worry. We aren't planning 'sit down and be reverent while we teach you this lesson' activites. We thought the most important thing we could do as Activity Day leaders was teach the gospel in a fun way so we planned activities that will naturally lead to conversations about gospel principles."
  • MODEST PAPER DOLLS: I will dress modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and myself. We made paper dolls and modest clothes for the girls to color and cut out, and discussed the importance of dressing modestly.
  • MODEST WEDDING GOWNS: I will dress modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and myself. Talk about the importance of Temple Marriage and the goal of the Celestial Kingdom. Bring wedding magazines and look at the wedding gowns and show the girls which dresses are appropriate for the Temple. Have the girls draw a picture of the dress that they would like to wear on their wedding day in the temple. Some wards are giving the girls a stack of napkins and/or garbage bags and tape and let them design a wedding gown and then have a fashion show.
  • MODEST CLOTHING HUNT: Go on a field trip to a clothing store. Look for modest clothing. Try to find shorts that are knee length, shirts that are not sleeveless, dresses that are long enough, one piece modest swimming suits. Talk about wearing clothes that they will be able to wear after they go to the temple and the importance of living by those same standards now. You could even talk to the buyer of the store and express your desire for them to stalk more modest clothing. You could write to several stores to ask for the type of clothing that you would like to see on the racks. If the stores know what you want they will buy them.
  • MY GOSPEL STANDARDS CHARADES: Have each gospel standard written on a paper. Let a child draw one of the papers out of a hat. That person will act out the Gospel Standard (like charades) while everyone else guesses. This is a really fun way to teach them the standards.
  • MODESTY SHOTS: One week we had a joint activity with the young women by necessity. I had agreed to take "Modesty Shots" (rather than Glamour Shots) for the YW before I was called to AD and both meetings were the same day at the same time so we just did them all together. The older girls welcomed them right in did the younger one's hair and helped them primp, etc. and the younger ones felt important to be included. We took pictures of them all in modest school attire, sunday attire and prom attire, and had a good discussion on the importance of modesty. One of the young women organized the whole activity as one of her projects and will produce a scrapbook called "Modest Girls are the Hottest Girls" with each girl having her own page. :) Both groups of girls had a blast!
  • "SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND" I SPY BOTTLE: I put this together for a Stake Primary Board Meeting so the activity leaders can take this back to their girls to do. “Seek and Ye Shall Find” 1. St. Mark 16:1 (Cinnamon Stick) - costco - big bottle @ Christmas time There is the listing of items and where I got the supplies. The best bottles are the Gatorade individual size - 20 oz. Cleaned, of course. Layer these objects with wildbirdseed - the kind with the black sunflowers in the mix. Leave about an inch from the opening for space. Squeeze hot glue onto the threads on the lid and twist onto the filled bottle. Believe me! It isn't going to open again!!!!!!! I printed the scripture referrence and the items on cardstock and lamenated the cards to place with a ribbon around the neck of the bottle. You can delete everything after the parenthesied item. This project can nickle and dime you. If you can do this with another group, it's the best to make this go a long way. OR - look up your own scriptures and find symbols that correlate with items that are readily available around your house. It's addicting to try and find all the items in the bottle. It's really quite fun!!! ~Lorena Brown
  •  Have the girls bring newspaper. Have the girls dress each other up in modest newspaper outfits. You will need a lot of tape!! The girls loved it. Then you talk about modesty.
  • NEWPAPER FASHION SHOW!: Have one of the girls read the Gospel Standard: I will dress modestly to respect heanvenly father and myself. And then split the girls into 2 groups. Have the girls design a outfit out of newspapers for one of the other girl in there group. Tell them to rember the Gospel Stanard and make the clothes modest. Then have the girls come out and modle the modest clothing.
